What Makes Toyota Hilux Pickup DC So Special?
If you like sports cars that look gallant but you get bored with the SUV model; perhaps a pickup truck model can be good alternative for you. Moreover, many car manufacturers are now making double-cabin pickup trucks. Unlike ordinary pickup truck, although only can carry a few things, double-cabin pickup truck also has a large enough space for carrying four adults.
There are several pickup trucks that are quite popular in the market, such as the Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Strada Triton, Nissan Navara, Ford Ranger, Mazda BT50 and the Chevrolet Colorado. One of the exporters from Thailand, which is currently the center of the pickup world production, claimed that the Toyota Hilux is the most popular pickup truck in the world today. So what makes Toyota Hilux pickup so special?
There are several variants of the Toyota Hilux pickup truck i.e. Hilux DC turbo diesel intercooler (TDI) machine, common rail with a power handling technology: 4×4 part-time. These options make the Hilux DC superior in some ways if compared to its competitors and power is the main superiority.
Appearances
If compared with the single cabin (SC) version, this latest appearance of the Toyota Hilux pickup DC looks more gallant. The cause is the dimension of this vehicle as a whole is greater than the SC 460 mm, except in the cargo. Especially for the cargo, DC is shorter about 460 mm.
Hilux DC and SC have the same design on the grille and headlamps. The difference is only at the front, namely the hood. DC equipped with air scoop or a funnel that makes it looks more macho.
The other differences are the tire size, type and model of wheel. Although both use the tire 15, for the DC is greater that is 255, while for the SC is 205. For wheels, SC uses the plates, while the DC uses the alloy. Another additional is the aluminum footstep that mounted on the right side and left side.
Interior
The interior of Toyota Hilux pickup DC is more luxurious, although the design of the dashboard and steering wheel are the same. Special to the dashboard, DC uses two colors (two tone): black and ivory, while SC is only available on black.
Interior equipments that included in the Hilux are air conditioning, audio 2DIN CD player with four speakers, while the instruments use analog model within the three circles.
Power
Since Toyota Hilux pickup DC engineered as a vehicle for a variety of field or a hard worker, Toyota chose 3.0-liter diesel engine. In their home country, Hilux DC had two diesel engine choices that are 2.5 liters and 3.0 liters. The mainstay technology of the engine is common rail and turbo intercooler and named D4D (Direct 4-stroke Diesel Turbo Common Rail) by Toyota.
Compared with other competitors, power that generated by Hilux is the greatest, which is 163 PS, while torque of 35 kgm. Amazingly, the torque is obtained at relatively low speed and ‘flat’, which is 1400-3400 rpm. With these characteristics, the machine is suitable for off-road and climb field. Machine also tends to be thrifty because, to gain traction, you do not need to deeply step on the pedal (high speed).
Another feature that boasted by Toyota from this machine is the intercooler. This tool is used to cool air that sucked by the turbine before supplied to the engine. In this way, the machine works more efficiently because the temperature can be kept relatively low.
For the turbo, Toyota Hilux pickup DC uses variable nozzle technology. This makes the ability of the turbo has the same effectiveness from low to high speed. The phenomenon of turbo lag at low rpm can be prevented. Conversely, when the machine is working at a higher speed, the excessive turbo spin could also be prevented. In this way, the endurance of turbo will be better.
4×4 Part Time
To distribute power from the engine to the wheels, Toyota Hilux pickup DC uses five speed manual transmissions. From the engine power transmission transmitted to the transfer case that works with part-time system. In this way, vehicles can work from 4×4 system (off-road) to 4×2 (on-road) or vice versa. To operate the transfer case must be done manually with the position of H2, H4, N, and L4.
The shift from 4×2 to 4×4 can be done while running, but it must be under the speed of 80 km / hr. Conversely, the transfer of H4 to H2 can be done at any speed. The transfer of H4 to L4, the vehicle must be stopped before or below the speed of 8 km / hr.
Suspension
In the front, Toyota Hilux pickup DC uses a double wishbone with coil plus stabilizer. Another additional is the steering with hydraulic power assistance or power steering. Hilux also uses disc brake at the front and drum at the rear.
With those conditions, it’s worthy if Toyota could offer the double cab vehicle with a competitive price. The price of Toyota Hilux pickup DC is approximately from $18,490 to $55,690.
